Losing a beloved pet is a frightening experience for any owner. At Pippa’s Army, we’ve put together some helpful guidance to give you the best possible chance of being reunited with them.

Below, you’ll find general tips that apply to most animals, along with links to more specific advice tailored to different species.

Lost your pet and don’t know where to begin?

Check your home and garden thoroughly!

Cats, reptiles, ferrets and other small animals are experts at hiding, often in places you’d never think to look.

Be sure to check cupboards, wardrobes, under, inside and on top of furniture, laundry baskets, boxes, sheds, under bushes, and even inside buckets and anywhere else you can think of.

Spread the word!

Share posts on social media, including local community groups and lost and found pet pages in your area. You can also post on our Lost and Found Facebook page, Pippa’s Army supports Havering and Thurrock, but if you’re outside this area, we may be able to point you in the right direction.

It’s also important to speak to your neighbours and ask them to check their gardens, sheds, and any outbuildings. Let local vets know too (not just your usual one) as anyone who finds your pet may take them to the nearest practice.

Update your pet’s microchip!

Microchips are the number one way lost pets are reunited with their families, so it’s really important to make sure your contact details are up to date. This means you can be reached quickly if your pet is found and scanned by us, a vet, or anyone else.

You can also mark your pet as missing on the microchip database to help alert professionals that they are lost.

It is a legal requirement for cats and dogs to be microchipped, but not all pets - yet! We strongly believe that ALL pets should be microchipped where possible. If yours isn’t yet, please get it done as soon as possible.
